Essien the ghanian international, 24, was signed to chelsea in 2005 and has now renewed his contract until 2012... He said " It didn't take me long to decide to sign", he has played 46 matches for chelsea...He also said "I am really happy because I came here to stay a long time. I work really hard and do everything to succeed. I have the ambition to win a lot of trophies." Though Essien last match against Tottenham scored an own goal, he has impressed the coach Jose Mourinho a lot and he has only missed one match up to now. They also said that they were stunned that he could play both midfield and defence very well. Chelsea's chief executive, Peter Kenyon said "We spent a summer getting him, it wasn't easy, and it is nice to be on the next step".
